Renaissance Faire Commercial

Something doesn't seem right when you use the Monster Truck guy to promote the local Ren Fair.

Maybe it was sarcasm, I am still laughing too hard to tell.

Books as Widgets...

Publishers OK online book browsing - CNN.com

A recent development by the book publishers Random House and Harper Collins has made it possible to embed a link to a book preview, which acts in a manner much akin to the "Search Inside" method used by Amazon.com.  I selected a random title that I found interesting and plopped it into my Blogger site so I could see how it worked.  So far it seems pretty fun and as a way to visually advertise new books, it certainly adds a bit of "umph" to any page.

My only critique would be that the feature is nothing more than an advertising tool without any real social networking value.  It would be fun to see how useful something like this could be for a library to push new titles to their users.  The companies involved make the analogy of users being able to flip through a few pages of a book before they would pick it up in a book store.  Where that may be true for retail, I wonder if the possibility of an interface like this for browsing a digitized collection could ever make sense?  Insert buy for request and we may have the inklings of something new.

Happy Birthday Graham Chapman

Just a short reminder of just how funny the late, great Python truly was.

Cheers Graham.
